31 Day Challenge: Day 27 (Inspired by Artwork)

Today’s challenge is Artwork. Probably my second favourite challenge! I’ve always been an artsy-fartsy type. By the by, the dent in my thumb is created by the hodgepodge of glue/hardener/teabag holding my poor thumbnail together.

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • Red – Pandora’s Polish Citrus Playful
  • Yellow - Essence Mellow Yellow
  • White- Sally Hansen French White
  • Black india ink
  • White acrylic ink
  • White flatback pearls

Words cannot express my hatred for that Sally Hansen white. It’s one of the crappiest formulas I’ve ever seen…but I can’t expect much from a 3/$5 pack I guess, haha. I used a calligraphy pen to create the fine black lines, and a dotting tool to create the screentone effect.

Anyway, this nail art is inspired by Roy Lichenstein, pop artist extraordinaire! More specifically, I was inspired by one of my favourite pieces:

31 Day Challenge: Day 26 (Inspired by a Pattern)

Today’s challenge is Pattern. The challenge that allows me to be completely lazy and cheat!

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • Pink – Zoya Happi
  • Black – Nicole by OPI

Sorry, I know these photos are absolutely awful compared to my usual ones! I used my Bundle Monster plate to do a cute swirly stamp in black. My pink nails match my eye-scorchingly bright pink sweater!

Seriously, that pattern is so creative and beautiful! The dress is absolutely stunning. It’s my favourite McQueen design…it’s really too bad he’s gone. I always looked forward to seeing his designs.

I can’t really do justice to such an intricate pattern, but I’m really proud of how these nails came out! That bird took forever to draw, lol.

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • Purple – Kit Spring Awakening
  • Hot Pink - Kit First Kiss
  • Pastel Pink – Innisfree #116
  • Topcoat – Essence Absolute Pure
  • Pink AB jelly resin rhinestones and gold studs

I decided to make some cute, cheerful spring nails inspired by Flower Fairies of the Spring by Cicely Mary Barker. I loved the Flower Fairies books growing up! They were filled with beautiful illustrations of fairies and gardens, and some of them had cute stories.

31 Day Challenge: Day 23 (Inspired by a Movie)

Today’s challenge is Inspired by a Movie. I’m going back to work this week, so I couldn’t do anything too outrageous. And of course I had to go and break my thumbnail halfway across, so it’s patched up with a teabag and superglue…

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • Turquoise - China Glaze For Audrey
  • Topcoat  -  Essence Absolute Pure
  • Black acrylic ink
  • Crystal rhinestones and pearls

This manicure is inspired by the movie Breakfast At Tiffany’s. Of course, nothing could be more fitting than using Tiffany blue, so of course For Audrey was the go-to choice.I used the rhinestones and pearls on the accent nails to mimic the iconic black dress and necklace that Audrey Hepburn wears in the movie.

31 Day Challenge: Day 22 (Inspired by a Song)

Today’s challenge is Inspired by a Song. Ok, so maybe this is more inspired by the music video instead of the song, but still!

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • Gold – Sally Hansen Golden-i
  • Gold Glitter – Etude House Golden Bell
  • Black – Sation Black
  • Topcoat – Essence Absolute Pure
  • Gold striping tape
  • Gold 2mm/5mm square studs

Ok, so Janelle Monae’s new song is my jam. And she kills it in the end with that rap! Her and Erykah Badu collaborating is a match made in heaven.

Anyway…onto the nails. I cut some round white acrylic nails into stilettos, then painted black and gold stripes and chevrons using scotch tape. Then I added the gold striping tape to add some extra flair (and to hide the wobbly edges, haha). The gradient nail was just made by sponging Golden Bell on the tip. Next, I gave each nail a good coat of topcoat and pressed the studs in. I looove how these turned out! Too bad I have nowhere to really wear these…

31 Day Challenge: Day 21 (Inspired by a Colour)

Today’s challenge is Inspired by a Colour. Naturally, I chose pink, since pink is the best colour.

Nail Polishes and Materials Used:

  • Pink - Zoya Happi
  • Gold – Sally Hansen Golden-i
  • Black – Sation Black
  • Iridescent pink  glitter
  • Black acrylic ink

Isn’t Happi such a pretty colour?! It’s one of my favourite colours ever. Anyway, this was a very simple mani. I dipped the wet nails into my glitter pot for the glitter dip effect. I also painted some leopard spots in gold and black. Lastly, I thought the middle nail was boring with just the rhinestone, so I added an Old English letter. And there you have it!
